Translator’s Note: As I said in the last part, my goal is to try to finish this novel by the end of the year! I know it’s pretty ambitious since that’s in two months, which means I have to do roughly 12 chapters a month, and during the holidays too.  But at least having set that goal, I’ll do my best and if I don’t make it, maybe I’ll finish by CNY?  I’ve just been extremely busy, but hopefully things at work will calm down soon.

Jiang Jun opened her eyes halfway and wanted to ask: Was she in the hospital? But even without speaking, she was dizzy and nauseated.

“You had a stomach perforation and you’ve been sleeping this whole time. The doctor said that you were overtired and you also have a problem with an imbalance of the inner ear. It might be Meniere’s disease and they will do further testing when you’re better.” Du gently held her hand. “The operation was very successful, you should take care of yourself and rest well for a while.

Jiang Jun struggled for a long time before she could force out a sound. “Where’s my phone?”

“Someone kept calling your cell phone. I picked up and they hung up without speaking. I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to rest, so I just turned it off.” Yin Zhe brought the phone to her.

Jiang Jun decisively drove the two brothers who wanted to stay with her out of the hospital room. Looking at the dozens of unread messages and missed calls on her cell, she thought to herself that the guy had really worried himself crazy! She laboriously entered the password, couldn’t be bothered to deal with the texts, and instead directly called back, only to receive a Mandarin prompt telling her that the call was in progress. Was Yuan Shuai not in Hong Kong? The call was quickly transferred, but no one spoke and she heard only the indistinct sound of breathing.

“Yuan Shuai?”

“Mm.”

“You’re in Beijing?”

“Mm.”

Jiang Jun laid there in the dark, listening to the machines around her beep from time to time. Her heart felt empty and she was a little scared.

“I’m sick and in the hospital.” Jiang Jun clutched the corner of the bedcover and sniffled as she held back her tears.

“What? How are you? How did you get sick? Is it serious? What did the doctor say?” The questions came like a barrage of gunfire. Yuan Shuai sounded exhausted, helpless, and aggrieved, all of his emotions pouring out uncontrollably. Jiang Jun cried, “I’m dying, really, my stomach hurts, I’m vomiting blood, and I’m dizzy. Yuanyuan-gege, where are you? I want to go find you!”

“I’m on my way to the airport now, so just stay at the hospital, seriously. Is there anyone with you? Don’t let them go yet, I’ll have them leave when I get back to Hong Kong.”

“I don’t want anyone else, I want you!”

“I’ll be there soon, be good and sleep for a bit. You’ll see me when you wake up.”

Jiang Jun cried so much that she couldn’t breathe. “I don’t want to sleep, what if I can’t wake up again?”

“Oh, don’t talk nonsense, what exactly is the disease?” Yuan Shuai asked helplessly.

“It’s a stomach perforation, they did an operation already, I’ve never had surgery in my life before.” Jiang Jun sobbed and, feeling that it didn’t seem dire enough, added, “and Meniere’s disease.”

“You scared me to death. Don’t be afraid, don’t worry, aren’t you Superwoman?”

Jiang Jun huffed and reached for a tissue to blow her nose. “I’m not Superwoman, I’m She-Ra.”

“Yes, that’s right, you’re She-Ra, so point your finger up at the sky and shout and you’ll be fine.”

Yuan Shuai kept chatting with Jiang Jun until the flight attendant forced him to turn off his phone.

Jiang Jun thought that she would see Yuan Shuai when she woke up. Her heart was much more at ease and she fell asleep holding the blanket.

Yuan Shuai hurriedly returned to Hong Kong and went straight to the hospital. Jiang Jun was staying in a suite, and the first thing he saw when he walked in was Yin Zhe sitting on the sofa in the outer parlor.

He and Yin Zhe stared at each other, both recognizing each other, and their eyes clashed with anger.

The first contact between Yuan Shuai and Yin Zhe happened after Qiao Na got drunk one day. Yin Zhe had used Qiao Na’s cell phone to call Yuan Shuai, but he didn’t answer, and Yin Zhe sent a text: Qiao Na is drunk, please come and pick her up, the address is…

Yuan Shuai saw the text and just deleted it. He didn’t care if Qiao Na was drunk or not, and he also determined that Qiao Na couldn’t possibly be drunk, and instead, it could only be that she was just pretending to be drunk. That woman had way too many little tricks.

Soon a second call came, but he still didn’t answer, and he received a second text: If you still consider yourself a man, then come here immediately.

Yuan Shuai was amused and continued to delete the text messages. He was sure that it was Yin Zhe who sent the messages, and sure enough he was just as Qiao Na had described; this little kid was really too stupid.

He thought about what he should do to put Yin Zhe’s overprotective feelings into infinite overdrive. It was best to simply take Qiao Na away, as far away as possible.

Yuan Shuai knew that Yin Zhe hated himself very much, in fact no less than to the same degree to which he hated Yin Zhe. On the day that Jiang Jun had hit her head, Yin Zhe had held her firmly without letting go, his expression fierce. Qiao Na had leapt forward to hug his arm: “Yuan Shuai… I…” Yuan Shuai had forcefully thrown Qiao Na down, the back of his hand hitting her cheek so that she ended up sitting on the ground with her head tilted. Ying Zhe had held onto Jiang Jun with one hand, while his other hand was still trying to protect Qiao Na.  Yuan Shuai hated him so bitterly that his teeth were clenched to the point of cracking. How could Jiang Jun fall in love with such a heartless bastard?

At this moment, however, Jiang Jun was lying in the inner room, and it was not the time to settle old scores. Yuan Shuai lowered his voice and asked Yin Zhe, “Is she asleep?”

Yin Zhe uttered a soft “Yes.”

“You can get lost now.” Yuan Shuai didn’t even bother to look at him and entered the room where Jiang Jun was.

Jiang Jun had been sleeping deeply until she was awakened by a roaring sound, which was when she found out that she was actually on a plane.  When she remembered everything, she wanted to get up, but she was unable to move because of the safety belt. In a panic, Jiang Jun shouted, “Yuanyuan-gege.”

“Are you awake?” A hand reached down and pressed against her face, so cold that Jiang Jun shivered. She turned her head to look at Yuan Shuai. He was hiding in the dark and hadn’t even turned on a single night light.

“Where are we going?” Jiang Jun asked, confused.

“We’re going home.” He freed her from the hospital bed, adjusted the infusion stand, wrapped Jiang Jun in a blanket, and carefully carried her in his arms. “Let’s go home.”

Jiang Jun looked around. “Where did the plane come from? Traitor, did you tell my grandfather?”

“No, this is a special SOS medical plane.” Yuan Shuai hugged her tightly, “Your family doesn’t know.”

“What’s wrong with you?” Jiang Jun touched Yuan Shuai’s hand. “Why are you so cold?”

“Do you feel cold?” Yuan Shuai pressed closer to her, “How come I feel so cold?”

“Are you catching a cold?” Jiang Jun reached out to touch his forehead, but was held tight by Yuan Shuai.

“Junjun, hug me. As long as you hug me, everything will be okay.” He childishly buried his head into the curve of Jiang Jun’s neck and muttered, “Just hug me and I’ll be fine.”

Who was the sick one anyway? Jiang Jun thought with amusement, enduring the pain of her wound, and raised her arms to hug him tightly.

The plane landed at Xiyuan Airport and Jiang Jun, accompanied by the doctor, got into the ambulance that had been waiting there for a long time. Yuan Shuai didn’t follow her. He had seemed preoccupied during the entire trip, as if he had a lot on his mind. After getting off the plane and talking to the doctor, he left in a hurry without saying another word to her.

Jiang Jun was still dizzy, so she was lifted up and moved around by the doctors and nurses for consultation and treatment.

In this blur, someone gently wiped her lips with a wet cotton ball. From his scent, Jiang Jun recognized who it was, so she pouted and said, “So you still know that you should come to see me, hm.”

Yuan Shuai smiled and pecked her lips: “Haven’t I come? The next week will be dedicated to serving my old lady.”

Jiang Jun reached out and hugged Yuan Shuai’s thigh. “You can’t back out.”

“As you wish.” He sat on the bed and bent over to pat Jiang Jun gently on the back to lull her to sleep.

Jiang Jun’s phone kept vibrating in her pocket. Yuan Shuai walked out of the hospital room, entered the password to check the texts, and a call came in. The name on the caller ID was “Boss.”

Yuan Shuai thought it over for a moment, pressed the answer button, and spoke to Du in a different voice. He told Du that Jiang Jun had been taken back to Beijing by her family to recuperate and that the doctor’s recommendation was two weeks of bed rest. Du had a lot of questions, which made Yuan Shuai a little impatient.

“And you are?” Du asked.

“Her uncle,” Yuan Shuai said. “Thank you for your concern. We will take care of Jiang Jun.”

When he returned to the hospital room, the phone began to vibrate again. He looked at Jiang Jun, who was sleeping soundly, and reached into his pocket to end the call without taking the phone out.

Although he could sleep on the visitor’s bed, Yuan Shuai still sat on the chair beside the hospital bed, staring at Jiang Jun, leaning down from time to time to kiss her face and to move her hair behind her ear.

The phone started to vibrate again and the screen showed “Jay Yin.” Yuan Shuai walked out of the room with some annoyance.

“Does she know about what you did?” Yin Zhe asked him that day in the hospital in Hong Kong. “I know everything, so you’re the one who should get lost.”

“Fuck!” Yuan Shuai said angrily.
